The Mind and Heart Behind the “Pen”

Thanks for wandering over to my far flung corner of the Interwebs.  I’m guessing you are here by accident. Whatever the reason, I am glad for your presence. If you find a post with comments turned off – there’s a reason. While I love feedback and responses, I’m convinced we do too much of our “talking” online and not enough in real life. So if something I write prompts a thought in you and comments are open, please share. If comments are closed, that is my quiet challenge to take your thoughts and go find a flesh and blood human to discuss those ideas, preferably civilly, and someone of a differing opinions. Seek understanding. Maybe if we spent less time trying to change each other’s minds and more time just trying to understand ideas (even if we don’t agree with them) we can begin to heal the divisions in our society and we will be pleasantly surprised by all the common ground we actually share. There are a few critical areas of life that are unarguable and not up for debate. I will delve into a few here probably. However, most of life exists in the in between spaces. There is room for nuance.

I have taken up this digital adventure to document my real life adventure. I’m a teacher, mostly because I am a perpetual student. Remember the kid in high school who actually LIKED school? Yeah, that was me. Still is.

In September of 2018 I embarked on a way-outside-of-my-comfort-zone, adventure and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to kick start a blog that has been bouncing around in my head for about a decade. Then I inadvertently took an unintentionally long hiatus and am just now finding my footing to write again.

Here you’ll find my musings on pretty much everything – people, places…and plates. Stick around long enough and you’ll figure out that I love: food (read – damn near all of it), cooking, baking, traveling, my fab friends, good books.

You should also know I consider myself a follower of Jesus – the one who flipped tables in the temple, healed the sick, encouraged women, pardoned sinners, saw the unseeable, accepted the foreigner, welcomed the outcast and who told us the greatest commandment is to Love God and Love Each Other. I’ve read the red letters and that is where I begin my faith. Clearly, I have opinions and this is where I share them. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

P.S. – if you want to follow my adventures and not be forced to actually read much (perish the thought!) feel free to follow me on Instagram –> @katerburytales or on Threads under the same.

  1. To embark on an adventure for personal improvement, scary for sure. Gutsy and exciting as well. I’m most proud of you and will miss our talks and hugs from time to time. I too will experience great change soon and I look forward to feeling a bit better with you as my inspiration. Love from the teacher across the hall.

    1. To my wise hall buddy – thanks for being a sounding board and support during moments when I was having trouble remembering why I was here. Your endurance is also an inspiration and you’ve earned every bit of change that is coming your way! 💕
